Spring Break 2018 has come and gone. What was once waited for and looked forward to with excitement and anticipation is now just a memory. School, and all of the things that encompasses, is geared back up and in full swing.
This past week, our students represented our community in several events and claimed awards. A bus load of students traveled to Knox City to the Academic UIL District Meet. They did great and brought back several ribbons and medals. A group of them will advance and compete in a few weeks at the Regional UIL Academic Meet. It’s a safe bet some of them will advance and move on to the next level. It is very exciting and we are proud of the growth of this program in the recent years. Our teachers and students have brought a new energy to the effort and it has been revitalized. We are actively and purposefully seeking opportunities for our students to try something new and put their academic skills to the test. Look for many more participants and more awards in the future!
A group of students also traveled to Stephenville and competed in a variety of events. Floriculture and Vet Science was a couple of contests that we had not previously had students compete in. This is just another example of our teachers stretching and expanding opportunities for our students. Horse Judging is something though we have established our expertise in. This time was no different. Out of 897 participants, our team dominated and claimed 3rd place in this huge competition!
Friday was a day of ‘firsts’ for Crowell ISD. Every day our students use the intercom and share the announcements with the students and staff. But Friday they used Facebook and went live! Instead of just hearing the announcements, classes got to see the students doing the announcements. You can see them too. Just go to our Crowell ISD Facebook page. You can watch them live or watch the recording any time. We will be live again Thursday morning around 8:00 AM. Log in and watch – it’s pretty cool!
Thanks to 3RF, Three Rivers Foundation, we had a virtual planetarium set up on the stage of our auditorium. Our kids got to travel to outer space and experience our galaxy in a way no text book or video could compare to. We appreciate 3RF and their involvement in enriching and extending the learning happening in our classrooms.
We rounded out the week with our Spring Glow. The practice gym was transformed into a big dance floor with glow in the dark balloons and decorations and lights bouncing off the ceiling. This may not have been the very first junior high dance, but it was the first one in a long time. Our 4th through 8th graders dressed up a little and had a terrific time dancing! All agreed it was a VERY fun time!
We have so much to be excited about and to brag about. But we could not do any of it as successfully as we do without the strong support from an incredibly involved and generous community. Truly, it takes a village to raise our children and ensure they are prepared and equipped to be successful when they graduate. Thank you!
It really is a GREAT day to be a Wildcat!
